Supporting Economic Development - Understanding Local Economic Development

The East of England LGA, with support from Improvement East and the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), are running a FREE one-day training event on Local Economic Development. It is aimed at improving the skills and knowledge of Elected Members in the East of England, with a view to enabling Local Authorities to meet their post-SNR duties.
This is part of an Economic Development training programme, which is being delivered as part of Supporting Economic Development, the Economic Development Capacity Building Project.
Over the course of the session, the training will provide a comprehensive overview of theory and practice in Economic Development, as well as current Local Economic Development issues and policy directions.
Key outcomes from this training course include:
- introduction to the theory and practice of economic development;
- opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities of economic development with other elected members in the region;
- comprehensive overview of policy environment in the UK in relation to economic development and regeneration;
- demonstrate the links between policy and delivery
- the training event is being delivered by CLES, the Centre for Local Economic Strategies. CLES is an independent think-doing organisation with charitable status, that undertakes a range of activities involving regeneration, local economic development and local governance.
Who should attend?
Local Authorities: Economic Development and / or Regeneration portfolio holders; other elected members whose remit includes elements of Economic Development or Regeneration
