A Regional Conference for the East of England to explore and anticipate the new Equality Bill

The new Equality Bill was introduced to Parliament in April in 2009.  It lays down new equality obligations such as the duty to consider reducing socio-economic inequalities in the public sector, equality in the procurement function, developing a single equality scheme as well as implications for the voluntary and community sector.  The Bill aims to deliver some major equality challenges to employers and service providers in creating a fairer future for all.  Will the new Bill deliver its own equality challenge?  What are the implications for employers and service providers in meeting their equality obligations? For the public sector, what does the equality duty mean? For the third sector organisations, what is the scope of for campaigning their members' rights and for greater partnership working in public procurement?

The conference is aimed at leaders, senior managers, heads of service, equality practitioners in local authorities, third sector equalities organisations and partners in the voluntary and community sector.  The day will provide opportunities to hear national and regional speakers to get a better understanding of the key tenets of the new Bill and the implications for employers and service providers.  There will be a number of workshops on a wide range of topics relating to the equality strands in the new Bill, showcasing the latest research and best practice.
